Hugh Parker Obituary:, JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI — Dr. Hugh Parker, the former second dean of the Else School of Management at Millsaps College and a longtime professor of accounting, has passed away, the college has announced with deep sadness. He was widely regarded as a foundational figure in shaping the academic strength and reputation of the institution.
Dr. Parker joined Millsaps College in 1987 as a professor of accounting before being appointed dean of the Else School of Management in 1993, a position he held until 1998. During his tenure, he played a key role in elevating the school’s national profile and was instrumental in launching the Master of Accountancy program, which remains one of the school’s defining academic offerings.
Colleagues and former students remember him as a rare blend of academic brilliance and personal warmth. As both a CPA and PhD, he was known for his ability to simplify complex financial and statistical concepts while maintaining a deep respect for students at all levels of understanding.
Throughout his leadership, Dr. Parker was also credited with recruiting influential faculty members whose work continues to shape the Else School’s legacy today. His vision for academic excellence helped establish a strong foundation that continues to benefit generations of students and educators.
