Bed-Stuy Shooting: NYPD Officer Shot in Leg During Confrontation With Barricaded Suspect in Brooklyn

Bed-Stuy Shooting, NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK — An NYPD officer was shot and a suspect was killed during a violent confrontation involving a barricaded individual in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn on Friday morning, authorities said.

Police responded to a 911 call around 5:45 a.m. reporting shots fired inside an apartment on Kosciuszko Street in Bed-Stuy. Upon arrival, officers encountered an armed suspect who had barricaded himself inside the residence, prompting a major police response.

According to officials, officers forced entry into the apartment after hearing gunfire from within the building. As the situation escalated, additional shots were fired, and individuals were seen fleeing the location while the suspect remained inside and locked down.

During the exchange of gunfire, one NYPD officer was struck in the leg. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition and is expected to recover, authorities confirmed.

The suspect, a 48-year-old man, was also shot during the incident. He was later transported to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officials have not yet publicly released his identity, and it remains unclear what led to the initial shooting inside the apartment.

The NYPD Emergency Service Unit and hostage negotiation teams were deployed to the scene as the situation developed, with the area cordoned off for several hours while police worked to secure the building and ensure no additional threats remained.

Authorities have confirmed that the incident is now contained, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the circumstances that led to the barricade situation and exchange of gunfire.

As of now, police have not released further details regarding possible motives or whether additional individuals were involved. The case remains under investigation by NYPD detectives.
