North Side Indianapolis Shooting: One Person Killed in Early Morning Gunfire Incident

North Side Indianapolis Shooting, INDIANAPOLIS, IN — One person was killed in a shooting on the north side of Indianapolis early Wednesday morning after police responded to reports of gunfire in a residential neighborhood, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).

Authorities said officers were dispatched around 5:41 a.m. to the 6700 block of Woodmere Circle in the Delaware Trails area, west of Hoover Road, after receiving a report of shots fired. When officers arrived at the scene, they located an individual suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was initially reported to be “awake and breathing” at the scene, but later died after being transported to a local hospital, police confirmed.

According to IMPD Public Information Officer Drew Brown, the person who contacted 911 about the shooting told investigators that he may have been involved in the incident. Police stated that the caller reported two masked individuals approached him before gunfire erupted.

Investigators also confirmed that the individual who called police is cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues. Another person was detained at the scene, though authorities have not released details about their identity or involvement.

Police have not yet announced any arrests or filed charges, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active investigation. Detectives are working to determine what led up to the exchange of gunfire and whether any additional suspects may be involved.

IMPD continues to urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they work to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting on the city’s north side.
