ICE Facility Shooting, DALLAS, TEXAS — A deadly shooting at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas left one detainee dead and at least two others critically injured after a gunman opened fire from a nearby rooftop in what authorities described as a targeted attack.
According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred early Wednesday morning when the suspect positioned himself on an elevated building overlooking the ICE facility and began firing multiple rounds toward a secured sally port area where a transport van was located.
Investigators said the gunfire struck three detainees inside or near the van. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were rushed to nearby hospitals in critical condition. No ICE officers or federal agents were reported injured during the attack.
The suspect, identified by authorities as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, later died at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officials stated that preliminary evidence suggests the attack was planned in advance and carried out using a bolt-action rifle fired from a rooftop vantage point.
Federal investigators also reported the discovery of shell casings near the scene marked with anti-ICE messaging, which they say is being examined as part of determining motive. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, have described the incident as an act of targeted violence, though the full motive remains under investigation.
Authorities confirmed that the ICE facility was immediately locked down following the shooting, and nearby buildings were evacuated as law enforcement secured the area. The scene drew a large response from local police, federal agents, and emergency medical teams.
Officials have stated that the investigation remains active, with federal and local agencies continuing to review evidence, digital activity, and the suspect’s background to determine how the attack was planned and whether any external influences were involved.
The Department of Homeland Security has condemned the violence, describing it as an attack on federal law enforcement operations, while emphasizing that security at ICE facilities nationwide is being reviewed in response to the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
May he rest in peace.
