Justin Cary Obituary, NEW YORK, NY — Justin Cary, the longtime bassist for the Grammy-nominated band Sixpence None the Richer, has died at the age of 50 following complications from a severe stroke, according to reports confirmed by the band and statements shared by his family and representatives.
Cary reportedly suffered a serious stroke in the days leading up to his death and was receiving intensive care at Albany Medical Center in New York. Sources indicate he was placed on a respirator and underwent multiple surgeries while in the ICU before passing away on June 18, 2026.
Family members and close friends were reportedly by his side during his final moments. His wife, Linda, remained with him throughout his hospitalization, according to statements shared on a fundraising page created to support the family during his medical emergency.
Justin Cary joined Sixpence None the Richer in 1997, the same year the band released its self-titled album that helped propel them into mainstream success with hits like “Kiss Me.” He became a core part of the group’s lineup, contributing to live performances and touring for decades as the band built a global fan base.
Beyond Sixpence None the Richer, Cary also worked as a touring and session bassist, performing with several well-known acts across the music industry. Colleagues described him as a skilled musician with a strong stage presence and a long-standing reputation for professionalism.
