Burrows, who became one of the most influential figures in television comedy, passed away on June 19, 2026, according to a statement from his family.
Throughout his more than five-decade career, Burrows helped shape some of television’s most beloved comedy series. He was known for his work on shows including “Will & Grace,” “Friends,” “Frasier,” “Taxi,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and “The Big Bang Theory.”
Burrows gained widespread recognition as the co-creator of “Cheers,” the long-running sitcom that became a cultural landmark. He also directed every episode of the original run of “Will & Grace,” helping guide the series into one of the most celebrated sitcoms of its era.
