Stone Oak Shooting, SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — A San Antonio Police Department officer was shot and a barricaded suspect later died following a major officer-involved shooting and standoff in the Stone Oak area of San Antonio’s North Side on Friday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the Stone Oak area shortly before 12:30 p.m. The incident unfolded in the 100 block of Red Hawk Ridge near Hardy Oak Elementary and Lopez Middle School, prompting a large-scale police response.
Police Chief William McManus confirmed that an officer was shot during the initial response. The injured officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been officially disclosed by authorities.
Following the shooting, the suspect retreated into a nearby residence and barricaded inside, triggering a SWAT deployment and a prolonged standoff. Negotiators and tactical units were called to the scene as officers worked to contain the situation and secure the surrounding neighborhood.
Authorities later reported that the standoff ended after several hours when officers entered the residence. The suspect was found deceased inside the home. Officials have not yet confirmed the exact circumstances of the suspect’s death, and it remains under investigation by SAPD’s Shooting Team and Internal Affairs.
Nearby schools and residential areas were impacted during the incident, with law enforcement maintaining a heavy presence and urging the public to avoid the area while the situation remained active.
