Kermarion Washington, TENNILLE, GEORGIA — A 15-year-old girl was killed in a fatal shooting late Friday night in Washington County, prompting multiple felony charges against a 22-year-old Tennille man, according to local authorities.
The victim has been identified as LuVenya Knight, 15, of Irwinton. Officials say she was found inside a residence on Hagan Circle near Tennille suffering from a gunshot wound following a distress call to emergency services.
According to Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 9:45 p.m. on June 19, 2026, after Washington County 911 received a report of a female who had been shot. When law enforcement arrived, Knight was found unconscious and not breathing inside the home.
Deputies and emergency medical personnel immediately attempted lifesaving measures, but the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene despite those efforts. Authorities later identified the suspect as Kermarion Markel Washington, 22, of Tennille.
Sheriff Cochran confirmed that Washington was taken into custody shortly after the shooting and transported to the Washington County Jail. He is currently being held pending a bond hearing in Washington County Superior Court. Officials have filed multiple felony charges against him, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, child molestation, and statutory rape.
Investigators noted that additional charges may still be added as evidence is reviewed and interviews continue. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is assisting the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in the ongoing case as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials have not yet released information regarding the relationship between Washington and Knight or what may have led to the shooting. The case remains under active investigation as detectives continue processing evidence and reconstructing the timeline of events.
